Going mobile with a web app

on December 14th, 2011 at 8:40:59 PM

Acquia is going mobile in 2012. Therefore we’re using a “mobile first” mantra when approaching our designs. What is “mobile first design”? It is a philosophy of design that centers on the theory that trying to squeeze a desktop experience into a smaller screen size is counterproductive to providing a good mobile experience. Instead, you design an optimal mobile experience before you consider the desktop. In this scenario, the desktop experience that is built on top of a mobile first design can be enhanced to use additional screen space and features as they become available.

The video of my session from DrupalCon Chicago 2011 is now live.

One week later

on March 16th, 2011 at 11:26:03 AM

It's been a week now since I got the call.  "The call".  It sounds so ominous when I put it that way.

I have this habit of screening numbers I don't recognize. Once I realize who it is, contact info is added.  And then I call screen for entirely different reasons. This is a habit I've developed over years of training.  You see, my wife and I have been on several family phones plans with several carriers and several phone numbers. There are two constants though. I end up with the main line and the previous owner of said main line forfeitted it by failing to pay this or any of their other bills.

I'm e-famous

Okay, so not really.  I'll probably never be famous, e or otherwise.  I can live with that.  But I did get interviewed by Jason Hibbets of OpenSource.com and that's pretty cool.

We can rebuild it, we have the technology

In the post DrupalCon glow I've realized that I have now met that critical number of people and given them directions to my site so that I must actual make sure it is cross site compatible.  I speak of course of that amazing number called "at least one".

Perhaps the thing that makes me the most proud to be part of the Drupal Gardens project is that it is the easy button for Drupal.  I use it, despite being technically savvy enough to build a site from scratch, because it takes all the work out of setting up and hosting my site.
